St. Louis, MO (KSDK) -- A local couple is the first to win a top prize from the new "St. Louis Cardinals" scratchers game, the Missouri Lottery said Monday.
24-year-old Kyle Boyd of Brentwood and 22-year-old Heather Franz of St. Charles bought the winning ticket on a shopping trip to the Dierbergs on Zumbehl Road.
The engaged couple explained that each time they go to the grocery store they pick up $20 worth of scratchers tickets. Its routine for them, and they usually win small prizes.
Well, this trip won them $70,000.
The couple plans to put the money towards their upcoming wedding, honeymoon, and a down-payment on a house.
Boyd explained that they plan to keep up their routine of buying scratchers on trips to the grocery store, saying "you can't win if you don't play."
"St. Louis Cardinals" is a $5 scratchers game that began on March 17. Boyd and Franz won the first of three top prizes to be claimed in the game.
