(CNN) - Fish oil may be short on benefits for stroke and heart attack survivors.
That's according to a peer review study published this week in the Archives of Internal Medicine.
The supplement has become popular for promoting heart health, but a new study says the omega-3 fatty acids in fish oil don't help people with a history of cardiovascular disease.
Early studies suggested that omega-3s may fight blood clotting, hardening of arteries and inflammation, but those theories have never been confirmed conclusively.
