St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - A small amount of wine or beer might boost your creative, right brain abilities, according to a study by researchers at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

In a story appearing in Bloomberg BusinessWeek, scientists administered vodka-cranberry cocktails to one sample group based upon their body weight until each member of the group had a blood alcohol level of .07.

Those individuals performed moderately well when asked to solve a series of math problems. The participants were then asked to solve word-association problems requiring more creative answers. Members of the group answered more problems in less time than their sober counterparts.

The intoxicated participants described a more intuitive feeling when answering the questions.

UIC researchers theorized alcohol consumption caused the participants to pay less attention to more distracting tasks and have greater access to solutions that might otherwise be ignored. Researchers published the results in the journal Consciousness and Cognition.
