O'Fallon, MO (KSDK) - An O'Fallon, Missouri husband is now behind bars, charged with murder.
Police say he strangled his wife to death.
O'Fallon police say 38-year-old Stacey Rone was strangled by her husband, 42-year-old Michael Rone, following an argument.
Neighbors say it was an act of unselfishness by the mother and wife that will stay in their memories.
Rone is now facing first-degree murder charges.
The couple lived in the 1100 block of St. Matthew Avenue.
Police say that's also where a relative found Stacey dead on Thursday. An autopsy revealed Stacey was strangled to death.
"I couldn't believe it happened, cause... especially so close," said neighbor Crystal Boschert.
Rone was arrested Saturday. Police say he was the last person to see Stacey alive.
Investigators say he admitted to strangling his wife during an argument.
"From what I seen every day, the day to day stuff, I never would have thought of that," said Natalie Armstrong, another neighbor.
"I'm not going to lie, I was pretty angered, just because you never want to hear about a husband murdering his wife," said Boschert.
Another third neighbor says the couple had a previous domestic dispute, which prompted Michael Rone to move out for several months. Neighbors say it was only in the past few months that he moved back in with his wife and kids.
"If she could give anything away, she would give it away and help anybody, anyway she could," said Armstrong.
That's how residents of living on the same block as the Rones will remember Stacey.
In September she was credited with trying to help save the life of a neighbor and disabled veteran, who was trapped in his home during a fire.
"I know she tried busting down the door. That's when my neighbor saw and he ran over and tried to help. They tried getting in through the back door, but there was no luck," said Boschert.
Now, residents are dealing with their second tragic loss in recent months.
"I don't know. You just didn't expect any of this to happen," said Boschert.
Neighbors say Stacey loved being outside, and would often be seen playing with her girls, walking her dogs, or doing yard work.
Neighbors also say she shared a home with her sister and brother-in-law.
Michael Rone is held at the St. Charles County jail on $250,000 bond.
