St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - The city of St. Louis is one step closer to having local control of firefighters' pension system, but the scene is also set for a possible lawsuit.
Board Bill 270 is Mayor Francis Slay's plan to reform the retirement system.
It would include lower benefits for some firefighters.
The retirement system is expected to file a lawsuit to stop the measure.
The new bill requires a companion measure to actually set up a new system.
That bill will be introduced to aldermen Tuesday.
A bill moving through the Missouri State House also addresses firefighter pensions. But that bill doesn't cut the pensions of active employees like the mayor wants.
