Ballwin, Mo (KSDK) -- A 24-year-old woman made up a story about being assaulted and having jewelry and cash stolen, according to Ballwin police.
Police said Brittany Rae Harper was charged with filing a false report.
Police said Harper admitted she made up the story about being attacked at her home on April 4. Police said Harper initially claimed a man forced her to the floor and held her there while another person stole several pieces fo jewelry and $4,900.
Harper was taken to an area hospital with no apparent injuries.
Police said Harper provided them with a suspect description and then called the following day saying a person matching the description was walking near her home.
Upon further investigation, police said they discovered the jewelry had been sold to a scrap dealer who provided them with photographs and the driver's license of the seller.
The homeowner, who police said was Harpers's mother, identified the seller as Harper. The driver's license also came back to Harper.
Police questioned Harper and said she confessed to selling the jewlery to get money for her boyfriend.
