St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - St. Louis police were called to a bus stop in south city Wednesday following a shooting.

Police said a 61-year-old man was riding his bike and collecting cans when he was approached by a suspect near the intersection of Grand Boulevard and Meramec.

The suspect attempted to rob the man and fired at least three shots, striking the victim twice in the back.

The injured man was transported to the hospital in serious condition. 

Officers and K-9 units were out canvassing the area searching for the suspect.

Police described the suspect as an African-American man in his 20s, wearing a dark hoodie and a white t-shirt.  He stands between 5'5" and 5'7" and weighs approximately 120 pounds.
