'Gold Star' honors for Lindbergh, Valley Park high schools

St. Louis County, MO (KSDK) - Two local public high schools were among eight schools honored as Missouri's "Gold Star Schools" for 2012, state education officials said Thursday.

The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education established the Gold Star program in 1991 as a way to identify schools performing at a high academic level or making progress serving a significant number of disadvantaged students.

The eight selected schools are:

Bradleyville High School
Bradleyville R-I School District
Bradleyville, Mo.

Center Senior High School
Center 58 School District
Kansas City, Mo.

Crane High School
Crane R-III School District
Crane, Mo.

Lawson High School
Lawson R-XIV School District
Lawson, Mo.

Lindbergh Senior High School
Lindbergh School District
St. Louis, Mo.

Maryville High School
Maryville R-II School District
Maryville, Mo.

Park Hill South High School
Park Hill School District
Kansas City, Mo.

Valley Park Senior High School
Valley Park School District
Valley Park, Mo.

Recipients of a Gold Star award are eligible for the national Blue Ribbon Schools award. The U.S. Department of Education makes the Blue Ribbon Schools announcement in the fall.
