East Carondelet, IL (KSDK) - Authorities say an Illinois man is in custody after abducting his own child.
The baby's mother tells NewsChannel 5 her husband forcibly took their daughter from their metro east home shortly before 4:00 a.m. Saturday. That home is located on north 10th in East Carondelet.
Authorities say the child was returned to her mother, unharmed, a short time later. The 7-month-old baby was found after a Jefferson County Sheriff's deputy reportedly pulled over the baby's father. The suspect was also arrested on that traffic stop, which occurred on Interstate 57, just south of Mt. Vernon.
The suspect is being held in Jefferson County. He faces charges of kidnapping and unlawful use of a weapon.
