St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - The five-year-old boy kidnapped from St. Louis Children's Hospital Tuesday afternoon is returning to Missouri with his family Thursday.
Investigators said Porter Stone was taken out of the hospital at 4:05 p.m. by his father, Jeffrey. Jeffrey Stone contacted Porter's mother to tell her he was taking him, allegedly taunting and insulting her, according to police. SARAA and AMBER alerts were issued Tuesday night.
Illinois State Police and the Alsip Police Department were called to the Baymont Hotel in Alsip, Illinois early Wednesday morning. Once there, they found Jeffrey Stone and his son. Jeffrey Stone's mother, Rhonda Marie Matthews, was in the hotel room as well, along with Heather Minton and another juvenile. Minton is believed to be Jeffrey Stone's sister.
Porter Stone was reunited with his family Wednesday evening at a Ronald McDonald House in Chicago. The family left Thursday morning to fly back to the Kansas City area. The mother resides in St. Joseph.
Porter was at Children's Hospital because he is next in line for a heart transplant. Officials said the boy was discharged from the hospital wearing an IV bag that contained only 48 hours' worth of medication.
The St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office charged Jeffrey Stone and Rhonda Matthews with kidnapping, interference with custody, and first-degree endangering the welfare of a child. Stone and and Matthews are being held on $1 million bond.
