St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - There's a celebration underway that has been 10 years in the making. A St. Louis couple said "I do" earlier Friday evening, but this was not your typical wedding.
Kelly Ayers and Eric Patterson have a passionate, inspiring love story and two beautiful girls to show for it; but it hasn't been without difficulty. Their daughter's chronic illness put their wedding plans on hold years ago, until a local organization stepped in to help.
The story starts like any other - boy meets girl. Soon after came love. And a few years later, a baby girl; and then another.
"I've been blessed with two beautiful girls, they are our whole world."
But that's where Kelly and Eric's story starts to set them apart. Their second daughter, Adrienne, was born with a rare genetic disability, Cornelia de Lange Syndrome.
Years ago, plans to marry were put on hold.
"I guess you could say that we kind of gave up on that because focusing on Adrienne was just a little more important,"
That is, until they heard about the gifted wedding.
"I feel like my dreams have come true."
The Gifted Wedding is a local organization that provides weddings for couples in need. And when Kelly and Eric submitted an application, it didn't take the selection committee long to decide.
"They were just so passionate about their family, each other, their relationship. It was like they couldn't say no,"
So on Friday afternoon, with the help of an army of gifted wedding planners and vendors, the Pattersons finally marked a major milestone in their girl meets boy love story, and sealed it with a kiss.
The Gifted Wedding is currently looking for their next couple. Visit their website if you would like to apply.
