JOPLIN, MO (AP) - A southwest Missouri man has been sentenced to life in prison for his young son's death, which he originally blamed on armed intruders.
Thirty-one-year-old Eddie Salazar was sentenced Monday to life in prison for the February 2010 death of his 8-month-old son at their home in Carthage. Salazar was convicted in March of second-degree murder.
The baby died of blunt force trauma to the head.
The disappearance of Eddie Salazar Jr. sparked a search after the father told investigators the infant was taken by armed strangers. The baby's body was found two days later in the Spring River.
