St. Louis (KSDK) - People in a St. Louis neighborhood say they're still not receiving their mail after weeks of complaining to the post office. 5 on Your Side first brought you the story last month.
In April the post office promised to fix the delivery problem. But according to people in the Locust Loft District, things haven't gotten any better. They say for the last five weeks they've gotten nothing but junk mail. We're told bills and packages have been left outside mailboxes and even returned to the sender. They say the only time they actually get their mail is when the regular carrier has the day off.
Post office spokesperson Valerie Welsch says they didn't know about the problem until 5 on Your Side brought it to their attention. Welsch says the carrier has been talked to several times and the post office is asking for patience as they work to fix the problem.
But one resident says her patience has run out. She's even started forwarding her mail to her sister's house.
"Be patient? If I really felt like they were addressing it, sure, absolutely, patience," said Deirdre Schaneman. "But I just feel like the complaints were not taken seriously, like they don't understand that people are truly and deeply inconvenienced by this."
Welsch says the post office is taking the issue seriously and since 5 on Your Side's first report a supervisor stopped by the neighborhood to replace name tags on the mail boxes. And Welsch says the supervisor is now personally working with the carrier to help him learn the mail route.
The post office says if you've got a complaint about your carrier, don't hesitate to send it straight to your local post master.
