St. Louis (KSDK) -- The troubled real estate market opens the doors to companies claiming to have the answers for consumers searching for solutions to their problems. Chris Thetford with the Better Business Bureau offered information about two companies which have recently come under BBB scrutiny.
ATM Auditing Services is a Utah company the BBB says charged homeowners hundreds of dollars for so-called risk free mortgage audits. The BBB says the company then delayed promised refunds for months or never paid them at all.
The BBB also says two local men behind questionable loan modification and credit repair businesses are now seeking investors to buy residential properties. The BBB says Steve Scharf and Michael Hathman run Smart Solutions Financial Services, Smart Solutions Real Estate Investments and We Finance Homes.
Smart Solutions Financial Services has an "F" grade with the BBB, the lowest grade possible.
