Los Angeles (CNN) - A preliminary hearing kicked off in Los Angeles Wednesday, in the near-fatal beating of a San Francisco Giants baseball fan.

The hearing for Louie Sanchez and Marvin Norwood, both charged with felony assault and mayhem, is expected to last several days.

The alleged victim, Bryan Stow, was brutally beaten while walking through the Dodger Stadium parking lot after the home opener game last year.

He's now in a wheelchair, with limited ability to talk and serious short-term memory loss.

Norwood and Sanchez pleaded not guilty in August, and remain behind bars on $500,000 bail each.
