Henderson County, TX (KLTV/CNN) - Human remains found last week in east Texas have been sent to a forensic lab for study.

Police say a woman discovered a skull by the side of a road in Henderson County last week.

A day later, search teams returned to the area and found several more skeletal remains.

Deputies are now trying to figure out how the bones got there.

"We don't know at this time. That's what we're trying to find out. It's suspicious anytime we find a skull that's not in a burial site, an approved burial site. So it is suspicious. That's what we're moving forward, to see all the information we can find out," said Chief Dep. Dan Parker.

The remains were ordered to be sent to a forensic lab, then on to an anthropology lab.

Investigators are considering the possibility that the remains were dumped or moved into the area by rain run-off.
