Wellston traffic stop shooting
St. Louis County, MO (KSDK) - A Wellston police officer was involved in a shooting Thursday afternoon after pulling over a vehicle last seen leaving a suspected drug house.
According to police, the incident took place around 2:15 p.m. near the intersection of Page Boulevard and R.M. Moore Avenue.
When the veteran officer executed a traffic stop on the white Hyundai, the driver of that car got out and pointed a gun at the officer.
Police said the officer yelled for the suspect to drop his weapon numerous times before finally opening fire in self-defense. The suspect is estimated to be 19-years-old and was struck and taken to a local hospital for treatment. His condition remains unknown.
A man riding in the passenger seat of the vehicle fled on foot but was quickly apprehended. A third person, seated in the back of the vehicle, did not attempt to flee and is reportedly being cooperative with investigators.
