Florissant, MO (KSDK)- Support continues to pour in for a Florissant Police officer injured in the line of duty.
On Sunday, two fundraisers took place for Officer Mike Vernon.
Officer Vernon was ambushed and shot several times while responding to a burglary call on Memorial Day. He's now paralyzed from the waist down.
Salon 67 in Florissant held a "Hair-Cut-A-Thon" from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to raise money for him and his family. One hundred percent of all the proceeds were given to Officer Vernon. Stylists cut the hair of about one hundred people and raised thousands of dollars.
"I grew up in Florissant and I think the least I can do is donate my time to do free haircuts. He protects and serves us and I think it's a good thing we help him out too when he's in need of help," said Kaitlyn O'Neal, a hairstylist at Salon 67.
Just down the street, Cugino's Italian Bar and Grill also held a benefit from 2 p.m. until midnight for Officer Vernon.
Fifty percent of sales and one hundred percent of tips will go to Officer Vernon and his family.
There was live music, games, food, a silent auction, and raffles to show support.
If you would like to help Officer Vernon and his family you can mail donations to the Florissant Police Officers Welfare Association, C/o Officer Mike Vernon 1700 N Hwy 67, Florissant MO 63031.
