Our Information Center is gathering new numbers on auto thefts, and they show a recent rise in the crimes.
St. Louis police say there were about 175 auto thefts in the city during February. That number rose to more than 300 thefts in May.
St. Louis and Kansas City are the two biggest targets for auto thieves in Missouri, but St. Louis Police Chief Dan Isom says over the long haul, auto thefts have actually gone down in the city, over the past decade.
We checked on the list of Missouri's most stolen passenger cars for 2011. Starting from the bottom, the top five includes the Chevy Impala, Dodge Intrepid, Honda Accord, Pontiac Grand Prix, and the most stolen car in the state is the Ford Taurus.
