Jacksonville, FL (WAWS/CNN) - Florida police continue the search for a missing woman.
Tara Hawkins is a former real estate agent, but hit some tough times following a car accident.
The 33-year-old disappeared June 1, 2012.
Family and friends of Hawkins are still digesting the fact that she is missing.
"I can't believe it. I really can't believe," said her friend, Marcus Pickering.
Hawkins was last seen a few weeks ago at an Extended Stay on Baymeadows Road. Her dog was found alone in the room with no sign of the owner.
Police believe she travels in a blue beach cruiser and may suffer from some form of brain injury.
Pickering, a former acquaintance of Hawkins, says she's had it rough the last few years.
"She's had a lot of financial hardship, a lot of mental strain, a death in the family and a really bad car accident," said Pickering.
Hawkins is a waitress at Emperor's Gentlemen's club, which according to Pickering, is not characteristic of her.
Before her car accident she was a successful realtor and in the Navy.
Monday morning police found a body a few miles away from Emperor's but police aren't saying whether or not there is a connection.
