Alton, IL (KSDK) -- The Clark Bridge across the Mississippi River reopened following a tractor trailer that tipped onto its side and lost its load.
Alton police told NewsChannel 5 the flat-bed truck was hauling scrap cars already demolished and crushed, ready for recycling. The truck was beginning to turn when the load shifted and flipped the truck onto its side. The truck fell against an SUV.
The crash resulted in the load of scrap being dumped across the roadway.
The truck driver was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
The driver of the SUV was not injured.
Equipment was brought to the scene to assist in the clean-up efforts.
