BELLEVILLE, IL (AP) - The co-chairwoman of a committee that'll select a Democratic nominee for Illinois' 12th Congressional District race says hopefuls for the seat are reaching out to her ahead of a looming application deadline.
Randolph County Circuit Clerk Barb Brown says she's received four completed questionnaires from would-be candidates for the seat being vacated by Congressman Jerry Costello. The application deadline is 5 p.m. Friday.
Brown says other questionnaires submitted were incomplete and need more information. And she notes others are contacting her as the deadline approaches.
The search committee is comprised of Democratic heads in the district's 12 counties in southern and southwestern Illinois.
Democratic nominee Brad Harriman last month dropped out of the race.
Brown expects the party to have a candidate by the end of this month.
