Winfield, MO (KSDK)--Three police officers rescue a man from his burning home in Winfield.
Winfield police officer R. Eaton was on patrol around 10:45 p.m. Friday when she noticed flames shooting from the back of a home on Sandra Way.
Two other police officers, Marc McCollister of the Winfield Police Department and Foley police officer Brian Richardson, arrived before firefighters and rushed inside the burning building. Once inside, they found a man sleeping in a bedroom.
"Visibility inside the home was less than two feet", said Officer Richardson. "The smoke alarms were sounding but the man was difficult to wake. Officer McCollister had to physically pull him from the bed", Richardson said.
The man was not injured. No one else was home at the time of the fire.
Firefighters arrived a short time later and quickly put the fire out.
Winfield-Foley Fire Chief Cory Swaffford says the fire is considered suspicious. Winfield Police are assisting in the investigation. Chief Jim Johnson says his department is looking into the fire as part of an ongoing criminal investigation.
