Wentzville, Mo (KSDK)- A Wentzville home goes up in flames and firefighters say it's all because of lightning.

Firefighters say the home is destroyed.

Now the community is rallying around the Williams family who lost their home and most of their belongings to the fire.

Battalion Chief Michael Scott with the Wentzville fire district says lightning struck the home on Providence ridge drive around 11 p.m. Saturday while the homeowners were inside.

The homeowners were able to get out safely and so did their pets.

Battalion Chief Scott says the home is most likely a total loss. He says there is significant damage and 4 to 6 inches of water inside and neighbors say because of that not much is salvageable. So on Sunday the neighborhood came together to help clean up and offered food, drinks, and clothing to the family who is now starting over.

"Our hearts are with them and their family and were here for anything they need," said Sandy Bajardi, who lives next door.

The Williams family said they were touched by the community support.

They are staying with family for the time being.

The Providence Meadows Homeowners Association is collecting cash and gift cards for them. You can mail donations to Joe Hatcher at 3 Pomfret court, Michelle Taggart at 2 Pomfret Court, or Katie Stearn at 4 Pomfret Court and they will send it to the Williams family.
