Rep. Jerry Costello (D-Illinois)
BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) - The 10 people who have applied to be the Democratic nominee for a southern Illinois congressional seat are eligible to be interviewed publicly by a selection committee on Saturday.
That's the word from Barb Brown, who's heading up the panel along with Congressman Jerry Costello. Costello isn't seeking a 12th term this year in the 12th Congressional District, making that an open seat.
Brown says the 10 submitted required questionnaires by last Friday's deadline. The interviews are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at Chester City Hall.
Brown isn't revealing a list of the Democratic hopefuls.
They're looking to replace Brad Harriman on the November ballot. Harriman abruptly dropped out of the race against Republican Jason Plummer last month, citing medical reasons.
