St. Louis (KSDK) -- It's the first day of summer and it feels like a St. Louis summer day complete with heat and humidity.
While the extreme heat has not arrived in St. Louis yet, there are things to keep in mind if you are going to be out in the weather.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offers tips to beat the heat. People should drink more fluids and avoid alcohol, which can cause dehydration. Stay indoors if possible. If you don't have air conditioning, go to a public place that does. Take cool showers or baths. Wear light-weight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothes. Wear sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher.
Cool Down St. Louis is one organization that can help seniors and the disabled who qualify for air conditioners or utility assistance. Contact Cool Down St. Louis by calling 314-241-7668 or visit the Cool Down St. Louis website.
Cool Down St. Louis also accepts donations of new or slightly used air conditioners at any Vatterott College. Cash donations are also accepted. Additional information can be found on the Cool Down St. Louis website.
