Festus, MO (KSDK) - Two people died Wednesday in a two vehicle accident on Highway 61 in Jefferson County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

Authorities identified the deceased victims as 75 year old Raymond McLean who was driving the car that was struck, and his 70 year old wife Carolyn, both of Festus.

According to state police, the accident occurred in the southbound lanes of Highway 61 at Interstate 55, near Laddie Boy's restaurant.

Al Nothum with the Missouri State Highway Patrol says a 17-year-old male from the Festus area was driving a pickup truck northbound on Highway 61 near Interstate 55 just after 11 a.m. when he ran a red light and hit the driver's side of another vehicle, which was driven by a husband and wife also from the Festus area.   The teenage driver has been identified as Keith Buehler of Ste. Genevieve.

The husband and wife were both wearing seatbelts, but died at the scene. The teen was airlifted to Barnes-Jewish Hospital and is listed in serious condition.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol will complete the accident report and pass it to the Jefferson County prosecuting attorney to determine whether charges will be filed against the teen driving the truck.
