St. Louis (KSDK) - It's been about ten days since we first told you that Becky's Carpet and Tile Superstore was going out of business. At the time, customers didn't know what would happen to their orders. Still, many are perplexed.
Since then NewsChannel 5 has received lots of phone calls and emails from Becky's customers wanting to know, what can we do? How do we get our carpet or our money back?
The once popular St. Louis floor covering institution is pretty desolate these days, the only thing outside of the St. Peters location is an old delivery truck and some beat up carpet pad. Even loyal customers have given up on the company.
"Cheated, like we've had money taken from us," said customer Terry Stiles.
He was once a satisfied customer now turned disgruntled and concerned.
"I do feel duped, because our check was cashed on Monday June 11 and doors were closed on Tuesday June 12th," said Stiles.
Now customers don't even have the option of talking to Becky's employees. Customers we talked to say a number on the door for more information, goes to third party company working to settle with people who recently bought floor covering.
When Stiles called he says he was told it would be about two weeks or three weeks before he saw his carpeting, which to him is not good enough.
"It's absolutely the principle of the thing, they knew when they cashed our check that the doors were closing yet the check was still cashed," said Stiles.
He feels he might be out the $500 he paid for carpet. The Better Business Bureau's Chris Thetford says there's always a chance that could happen, so he suggests staying on top of the matter as much as possible.
"It's a challenge for people because the company has been around for a long time," said Thetford. "So consumers need to remember what their rights are, work with the company as much as they can to get satisfaction."
"I'm tired of waiting now, I've asked for a refund by the end of the week," said Stiles.
When NewsChannel 5 tried calling the third party involved, they had no comment and said they couldn't talk.
Becky's has not filed for bankruptcy.
