St. Louis (KSDK) -- People who will be heading to downtown St. Louis Saturday for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure should take extra precautions to prepare for the heat.
Temperatures are expected to be in the 70s with low humidity during the race on June 23, 2012. Temperatures will climb into the 90s later in the day.
St. Louis City Health Department Director Pam Walker advises participants to bring down their own bottled water and to wear light, loose-fitted clothing. She said with thousands of participants it may be difficult to find shade and access the bottled water provided at the event.
She said people who are medication should also be careful. Avoid drinking caffeine, sugary drinks and alcohol to prevent dehydration.
People may also want to wear SPF 15 and wear a hat.
