Monarch firefighter injured rescuing crash victim in St. Louis County

St. Louis County, Mo (KSDK) -- A Monarch Fire Protection District firefighter was slightly injured while trying to help someone who was partially ejected during a crash, according to Monarch Fire Marshall Roger Herin.

The car was found about 50 feet down an embankment against a tree.  It went off Highway 109 near Wildhorse Creek Road around 3 a.m. Thursday.

The rescue squad secured the vehicle while firefighters freed the patient.  A hauling system brought the patient up to the road.  Arch Helicopter flew the patient to an area hospital for treatment.

The person's condition is unknown.

The firefighter was injured while trying to reach the driver.  He was treated and released at a local hospital.
