St. Louis (KSDK) - A small fare increase will be implemented on July 1 for MetroLink and MetroBus passengers.

The increase will affect riders who purchase two hour, weekly, monthly, and semester passes. The two hour pass will increase from $2.75 to $3, and the reduced fare will increase from $1.35 to $1.50. Weekly passes ill increase from $23.50 to $25, and monthly passes will increase from $68 to $72, and the reduced fare for those will increase from $34 to $36. University semester passes are also rising from $145 to $150.

The base fare for MetroBus passengers will remain the same at $2, and the one ride MetroLink fare will remain at $2.25. Metro Call-A-Ride fares will remain at $4.

The increase was necessary because Metro is spending more money on fuel, vehicle parts, and other expenses.

It was approved in May by the Metro Board of Commissioners.
