St. Charles, MO (KSDK) - The suspect of a St. Charles, Missouri bank robbery Wednesday morning has been identified. DeAndre A. Wilkes of St. Charles has been charged with first-degree robbery.
St. Charles police say around 10 a.m. they received a report of a robbery at Commerce Bank in the 1100 block of First Capitol Drive.
A witness in the area had called police shortly before the robbery to report an occupant of a two tone blue Chevrolet Astro or GMC Safari van. That information was passed to neighboring agencies, and at 10:17 a.m. St. Ann police stopped a vehicle matching that description on eastbound Interstate 70.
When investigators responded to the scene they determined the man in the van was the suspect, and 33-year-old Wilkes was then identified by bank employees.
Wilkes had tried to disguise himself as a woman during the robbery, and authorities believe he aborted a robbery attempt earlier that morning at PNC Bank.
Money was also recovered from the scene.
Wilkes is currently being held at the St. Charles County Jail.
Bond is set at $200,000.
