Jefferson City, MO (KSDK) - Governor Jay Nixon ordered the activation of the State Emergency Operations Center Friday in response to a long period of heat and low precipitation.
The Missouri National Guard has also been ordered to ready the assets and resources it would need to fight fires in Missouri. The Missouri Division of Fire Safety is also helping with resource coordination.
Around 550 acres of Mark Twain National Forest have burned, and around 2,000 additional acres are at risk. Missouri's Fire Mutual Aid Program is deploying more personnel, trucks, and tankers to protect homes and structures in the area.
