San Jose, CA (KSDK) - The U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Trials are underway in San Jose.

Sarah Finnegan is from St. Louis and finished 6th place on Day 1.
Dana Dean is at the trials and has a story that could be good news for the St. Louis economy.

Finnegan will compete again on Sunday night at the trials. And while her family and friends are here to support her, I met up with some other St. Louisans who are here for a different reason.

"I'm Frank Viverito, president of the St. Louis Sports Commission. We produced the National Championships in St. Louis a couple weeks ago. It's a great opportunity for St. Louis to take a look at an event that we might be able to bring to the region."

"We've taken a look at the Olympic Swimming Trials, the Olympic Wrestling Trials, we're certainly going to take a look at the Olympic Gymnastics trials and we'll bid on one or more of those events with the intent of bringing each one to St. Louis in 2016," Viverito said.

After the Olympics, USA Gymnastics would start looking for a place to hold the trials in 2016.

The women's Olympic gymnastics team will be announced following Sunday night's competition.
