Troy, IL (KSDK)--The heat is being blamed for the death of a Troy, Illinois woman.
Dorothy Scott, 88, was found dead inside her home on East Clay Street on Sunday. Relatives discovered her body after Scott left a message on their answering machine saying she was sick.
The Madison County Coroner says it was 90 degrees inside the home and Scott had an elevated body temperature.
Investigators say the air conditioner inside her home was working properly, however the thermostat had been switched from cool to heat. Scott suffered from bouts of disorientation and may have accidentally switched the unit to heat while adjusting the thermostat.
Scott is the fourth person to die since the heat wave began on June 28th. The other three deaths were in the city of St. Louis.
