St. Louis (KSDK) -- American Airlines flight 1500 to Chicago returned to Lambert-St. Louis International Airport this morning immediately after takeoff.

Passengers, which included a group of NewsChannel 5 employees, were told the plane hit a flock of birds.  As a precaution, the pilot turned the plane around and returned to Lambert.

After crews inspected the plane, passengers were told there was no damage to the plane and it took off again bound for Chicago.

According to the FAA, more than 9,600 wildlife strikes involving civil aircraft were reported in 2010.

NewsChannel 5 web producer Brandie Piper was one of our employees on the flight. She Tweeted about the incident moments after the plane landed.  Minutes later, American Airlines replied to her Tweet, assuring her she will fly safe.
