St. Louis (KSDK) - A contract has been awarded for a new I-64 bridge over the Missouri River.
The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission released more details on plans for the project at its meeting this morning.
The project includes building a new I-64 bridge. It will also provide a new bike and walking trail to connect the KATY trail to the Monarch Levee trail.
The budget for the project is $125 million. But the commission awarded a contract to the lowest bid, which was $111 million. The winning team is Walsh/Alberici. The contractors hope to finish the project by December 2015, which is six months ahead of MODoT's deadline.
The new bridge will replace the current structure carrying westbound I-64 traffic from St. Louis County to St. Charles County. The current bridge was built in 1935.
