Madison County, IL (KSDK) -- Police in Madison County, Illinois, are looking into burglaries at five homes, all in a rural area in the northeastern section of the county.

The homes were in New Douglas, Alhambra and rural Edwardsville.  All were hit between June 26 and July 11, 2012.

Police say the burglaries happened during the day, when residents were not home.  Thieves took electronics, jewelry, guns, money and tools.

If anyone has come to your door or house looking for directions or asking if someone lived in the area, police want to know.  Investigators say it is a common tactic burglars use to figure out if anyone is home.

Police also want to know if you know someone that has new jewelry or electronics they didn't have before or cannot afford.

Anyone with information can contact the Madison County Sheriff's Department.
