Trooper recovering from accident on I-70 near Wright City

Wright City, MO (KSDK) - A Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper suffered minor injuries in a traffic accident on Interstate 70 near Wright City.

A spokesperson for the Highway Patrol said the accident happened around 9:15 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-70 about one mile east of Wright City.

Trooper William Able is a 14 year vetaran of the patrol.  He was reportedly sitting in his vehicle on the shoulder of the interstate after completing a traffic stop when authorities say an eastbound car swerved on to the shoulder and struck the his vehicle.

The trooper was transported to a local hospital.  He was treated and released for minor injuris.

The driver of the car that struck the trooper's vehicle was arrested but so far no charges have been filed.  Troopers say the 18-year-old may have been distracted when he caused the crash.  He and his passenger suffered minor injuries.

The eastbound lanes of I-70 were shut down for several hours at Wright City.
