(CNN) - Former President George H.W. Bush and his wife Barbara will not be attending the Republican National Convention in Tampa next month.
Mr. Bush's spokesman confirmed the news that Bush won't be attending because he has trouble getting around.
The former president, who is 88-years-old, is confined to a wheelchair because of vascular Parkinsonism, a disease that limits his mobility and ability to travel from his summer home in Maine.
The spokesman says the Bushes are convinced now more than ever that Mitt Romney and his wife Ann are needed to help turn the country around.
