Bellefontaine Neighbors, MO (KSDK) - Police in north St. Louis County are keeping their eyes peeled for a man who they say broke into an elderly woman's home overnight, robbed her, and struck her after taking her wedding ring and $40 in cash.
Bellefontaine Neighbors Police Sergeant Peggy Vassolo tells NewsChannel 5 the 85-year-old victim heard noises around 1:00 a.m. this morning and was met at the basement steps of her home by the masked intruder who got into the home through a basement window.
The suspect then bound the woman's hands and feet with tape and struck her before taking the ring and the money and fleeing the home.
Officials say the victim lives at the home alone in the 10400 block of Bellefontaine Road.
The person police are looking for is described as a thin black male wearing a mask. Authorities continue to interview the victim to try and get a better description of the person they are seeking.
