East St. Louis, IL (KSDK) - A former East St. Louis police officer was indicted Tuesday for making false statements to federal law enforcement officers.

Court documents state 40-year-old Ramon T. Carpenter made the false statements during an investigation of a civil rights complaint.

The indictment states a female driver encountered two East St. Louis officers at Louisiana Boulevard and 25th Street early in the morning of May 8, 2012.

The woman was intoxicated and had an open liquor container in her vehicle, and believed she would be arrested for driving without a license, insurance, and for being under the influence of alcohol.

She said she was taken to a remote area of Jones Park in East St. Louis and performed oral sex on the officers so she wouldn't go to jail.

Documents state that when Carpenter was interviewed by federal agents he denied receiving oral sex and denied being at Jones Park during his shift.

If convicted, Carpenter faces up to five years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and up to three years of supervised release.
