Fraudulent unemployment benefit claims

St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - St. Louis area people were indicted Friday in separate cases for fraudulently receiving federal unemployment benefits while they were still employed, U.S. Attorney Richard Callahan said.

According to the indictments, the crimes all occurred over a three-year period from 2008 to 2010.

The U.S. Attorney's Office identified the six individuals as:

Reginald Terrance Owens, 51, of Florissant
Bryan Cobbs, 35, of St. Louis
Pamela Clark, 43, of St. Louis
Monique Faulkner, 52, of St. Louis
Mark Merriweather, 35, of St. Louis
Derek Shaeffer, 52, of St. Louis

The amounts of federal and state monies obtained by the individuals total as follows:

Cobbs - $24,099
Clark - $26,648
Faulkner - $16,550
Meriwether - $16,727
Owens - $18,630
Shaeffer - $21,013

If convicted, each suspect faces up to ten years in prison and/or fines up to $250,000.
