Kirkwood, MO (KSDK) - More than four years ago, a mass shooting forever changed the Kirkwood community.
NewsChannel 5 spoke Todd Smith, a survivor of the mass shooting in Kirkwood City Hall that would ultimately claim the lives of six people.
Todd Smith was a reporter four years ago when he was covering a city council meeting for the Suburban Journals on February 7, 2008 when Charles 'Cookie' Thornton opened fire in that room.
Two police officer and three city officials died that day. Mayor Mike Swoboda died seven months later from injuries sustained in the shooting. Todd Smith was shot in the hand.
Charles Thorton was shot and killed at the scene.
Smith was shot in the hand.
