St. Charles, MO (KSDK) -- St. Charles County has had its first heat-related death for the summer of 2012, the medical examiner said Tuesday.
St Charles officials say a 64-year-old male was discovered dead in his mobile home on July 7. Following examinations, his cause of death was ruled as hyperthermia.
The victim lived alone and reportedly had his A/C removed due to high costs of operation. A relative offered to move him to cooler conditions during the heatwave, but they said he refused.
Though this is the first heat death in St. Charles, the county has also reported 53 heat-related illness cases since June.
