Fairview Heights, IL (KSDK) - The Reverend Larry Rice and dozens of homeless spent the afternoon at St. Clair Square in Fairview Heights. Rice held a news conference in Belleville Tuesday morning and said he's trying to call attention to the lack of homeless shelters in St. Clair County.

There is a homeless shelter in East St. Louis, but a homeless shelter closed in Belleville in 2009.

Belleville's mayor agrees the homeless problem needs to be addressed. He says he's been meeting with other leaders in St. Clair County to come up with a solution.

Following Tuesday's news conference, Rice took a large group to the mall so they could "get out of the heat, get something to eat and apply for jobs."
