San Antonio (WOAI/CNN) - A Texas man sentenced to life in prison is missing after apparently cutting off his ankle monitoring bracelet.

A jury sentenced Anselmo Rodriguez Tuesday for sexually abusing two young girls, including one who developed a sexually transmitted disease.

That same jury found Rodriguez guilty the day before.

Rodriguez was allowed to leave Monday on bond and under house arrest because he was wearing a GPS ankle monitor.

That's when authorities say he made his escape.

"I had requested that one of the family members travel to the house to determine whether or not he was there. I was informed, no he was not. But the device was. Yes, the device was located," said bond officer David Reyes.

It's unclear why the court allowed Rodriguez to go home after the guilty verdict instead of taking him into custody.

A state fugitive task force is helping to look for him.
