Chesterfield, MO (KSDK) -   A three alarm fire early Friday has sent one man to the hospital and resulted in the rescue of nearly a dozen other residents from the building on fire.

Investigators say the first call to the Schoettler Village complex off Chesterfield Parkway was for a person having difficulty breathing.  Paramedics were dispatched to the complex and once inside the building in the 1600 block of Wishwood, they noticed a strong scent of smoke.

Firefighters were called to the scene at 2:11 a.m. and found flames coming from a second story unit.  The man inside was rescued and transported to an area hospital.

While firefighters battled the fire, rescuers helped evacuate another ten people, some with ladder trucks from their outside balconies.  No other injuries reported.

Officials say the fire was contained to the single unit of the 12 unit building.  Damage to the unit on fire was significant but residual damage to the neighboring apartments was not immediately known.

A specific cause for the fire has not been determine, although fire officials say they have not found anything suspicious.
