(KSDK) - A man was shot during a burglary in south St. Louis early Sunday morning.

Police say around 1:30 a.m. a 21-year-old man was awakened by a knock at front door of his home in 3700 block of Bamberger.  When he got up to answer the door he found three men burglarizing his home.

When he told the burglars to get out, one of them punched him in the face.  The victim fled the home and told a neighbor to call police.

As he was fleeing, the man heard several gunshots from inside the home.  When police arrived they found a man in the home with a gunshot wound to the head.  He was taken to an area hospital where he is in critical condition.

The first suspect is described as a male in his early 20s, about 6'1", with a medium build and short hair.  He was wearing a white t-shirt and multi-colored shorts.

The other two suspects are described as males in their early 20s, approximately 5'6" to 5'8", with short hair and wearing white t-shirts and dark colored jeans.
