South St. Louis (KSDK) - St. Louis Police were busy Monday morning assisting at least a half dozen motorists who got a rotten start to their day, after driving over debris that resulted in flat tires and in some cases, more serious damage to the under carriage of their vehicles.
The amount of debris forced the closure of the three right hand lanes of NB I-55 between Potomac and Arsenal while the debris is cleared.
St. Louis Police officials say all the lanes have now been cleared to thru traffic and despite the congestion that grew while the road was blocked, traffic is getting back to its normal flow into the downtown area.
The impacted motorists were all on northbound Interstate 55 between the Arsenal Street overpass, south towards Gasconade according to police who were not able to immediately identify the source of the debris.
No one was hurt in the incident, although one vehicle reportedly went out of control for a moment after encountering the debris and the subsequent blow out of the tire.
St. Louis Fire officials were called to the scene to flush the debris off the pavement. MODOT officials were also summoned to the scene to assist.
